DEBBIE BROOKS LAUNCHES THE 2003 HANDBAG COLLECTION
Designer Debbie Brooks introduces the handbag every woman must have in 2003. Cindy Adams, New York Post columnist, calls the bag the hottest accessory for the upcoming year. Known for her vibrant and fashionable artwork, Brooks has brilliantly translated her art into product with the launching of this fun and exciting collection. Her whimsical subjects, bold graphic colors, plus the superb craftsmanship of the bag all add up to an original piece for any occasion.
Her bags are sophisticated and have a sassy edge. They are being worn around town by many celebs including the rapper Eve, Carol Alt, Elizabeth Rohm (Law & Order's beautiful assistant DA), Star Jones, and Donald Trump's Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. She also has the unique ability to incorporate individual logo's into the design i.e., Henri Bendel (where 75 bags flew out of the store). See Press for Photography. Debbie Brooks is a very prominent and successful "pop" artist in a field mainly dominated by men.
After attending "on scholarship" the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York City, she continued her studies at the esteemed Royal Academy in Copenhagen. Her father's career had been with "Air France" and, she had had the benefit of constant travel with a father whose passion was art; visiting museums was a priority in their lives and at the ripe old age of seven, Debbie made the momentous decision to become an artist.
Upon her return to the U.S. she was contracted by "Toon Cards" at Universal Studios in L.A. to design their cartoon store and create a new array of animated images. Her unique talent allowed her to enjoy an abundance of freelance design work. She has worked with Disney, Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, and Nickelodeon, just to name a few. Her creativity as a cartoon artist reached new heights when she was commissioned by FAO Schwartz in New York to design a series of her own animated cartoons for their store.
Debbie has utilized her recent fashion success to help those in need. She has donated a number of bags to various fundraising groups and charities, raising money for causes such as Muscular Dystrophy and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In 1997 Debbie met her husband, Paul-Philippe d'Auriac, an accomplished engineer and businessman. Their combined talent created the 3-D rechargeable "Pop Motion" artwork which has become so popular among collectors.
